Not much can compare to the adrenaline-injected thrill of rolling down the street riding a motorcycle. Whether you’re after a speedy sports bike or a stylish cruiser, there are options to fit anyone’s image of a dream bike. So sit back, read on, and discover the wonderful world of motorcycle classes!

Standard

Also referred to as naked bikes or roadsters, these motorcycles are for general purpose riding. They’re versatile and can fit a few different roles, though they don’t necessarily hit any niche particularly well. An upright sitting position keeps riders focused yet comfortable, while their general flexibility, low cost, and moderate power make them ideal for beginners who don’t want to compromise any particular aspect of their ride.

Cruisers

The classic American bike, cruisers are named for what they’re made for: cruising. Enjoy rides through urban centers down city streets, showing off your shiny cruiser, before hitting them with the throttle and thunderous roar of a large displacement engine. An excess of low-end torque makes for a great close-to-the-road feel with plenty of handling on slower and shorter rides. However, they’re less capable at taking sharp corners and are hardly the most comfortable vehicle for long distance travel. But if you want the most style you can get on two wheels, a cruiser is where you want to sit your keister.

Touring

Most motorcycles are designed for shorter rides on account of there being a lot of things that can fatigue the rider. From wind to turning, a bike that necessitates active riding might tire out the rider before they have a chance to get where they want to go. Touring bikes have features designed for long-distance rides. Everything from upright sitting posture, to cushioned seating, to windshield design is all about carrying riders further without wearing them down. Extra cargo space makes them good for travel, and large-capacity fuel tanks means longer periods between stopping for refuel.

Sport

If your primary concern in motorcycle riding is the desire to hit high speeds while maintaining control, then you’ll want a sport bike. These motorcycles are tuned for the absolute peak of performance on the race track, but they’re also great for the freeway. Fuel economy and initial price-point go out the window here, and if you’re looking for the most affordable option, look elsewhere, but you’ll have all the power and speed you could possibly want from a motorcycle!

Dual Sport

Dual-sport are street legal bikes designed to also be able to enter off-road situations. They typically have dirt bike chassis with added lights, mirrors, signals, and other instruments and components to make them street legal. Great if you’re looking for a street bike that can handle a bit of dirt, or the other way around!
