Motorcycle Rider Training Classes near St. Louis, MO

Big St. Charles Motorsports & St. Charles Harley-Davidson® offer a variety of training classes designed for everyone ... from beginners to experienced riders. These classes offer a new or experienced rider opportunities to enhance, renew, and refresh their skills. These courses are a part of the philosophy of Safety Renewal, where a rider must continuously take advantage of opportunities to build upon both the Mental and Physical skills needed to be a life-long "Learning" rider.

  • Basic Rider Course (BRC): The best place to start. Covers the basics of operating a motorcycle and safety oriented mental strategies. Before class you will be required to take a 5 hour online training class. You'll spend the class time on our training range using bikes that we provide. At the end of the class we'll give you a written and a riding test.  If you pass both tests and complete the class, we will give you a card to take to a Missouri license office.  They will then put a motorcycle endorsement on your Missouri drivers license.  YOU WON'T NEED TO TAKE ANY TESTS AT THE DMV.  May also earn you an insurance discount.
  • Basic Bike Bonding Rider Course (BBBRC): The next step after BRC. A partial day class of riding exercises for permitted or endorsed riders designed to develop basic riding skills. Exercises focus on a variety of cornering skills and limited space maneuvers. Motorcycles are provided. A motorcycle endorsement or permit is required.
  • Basic Rider Course 2 Skills Practice (BRC-2): A partial day class of riding exercises for endorsed riders using their own motorcycles. A perfect way to reinforce basic skills and to get more comfortable on your own motorcycle. May earn you an insurance discount.  A motorcycle endorsement is required.
  • 3 Wheel Basic Rider Course (3WBRC): Similar to the 2 wheel Basic Rider Course except on 3 wheel Can Am Rykers that we provide.  Before class you will be required to take a 5 hour online training class.  At the end of the class we'll give you a written and a riding test.  If you pass both tests and complete the class, we will give you a card to take to a Missouri license office.  They will then put a motorcycle endorsement (with a 3 wheel restriction) on your Missouri drivers license.  YOU WON'T NEED TO TAKE ANY TESTS AT THE DMV.  May also earn you an insurance discount.
  • Dirt Bike School (DBS): DirtBike School is a fun, one-day, hands-on training session available to anyone six years old or above (students age 6 - 12 years old need to provide their own bike). DBS classes are held at Holzhauer Pro Motorsports in Nashville, IL. MSF-certified DBS Coaches will teach you basic riding skills and responsible riding practices, including risk management and environmental awareness.
 

BASIC RIDER COURSE (BRC) $275

GET A MOTORCYCLE ENDORSEMENT ON YOUR MISSOURI DRIVERS LICENSE!

The MSF Basic RiderCourse is designed for beginning riders of all ages. You will be required to complete a 5 hour online course no more than 30 days before your first class date.  During class you will have approximately 11 hours of hands-on riding exercises in a controlled, off-street environment. Motorcycles are provided at no additional charge for your use during the course. Your MSF-certified RiderCoach will guide you through the basic skills of straight-line riding, stopping, shifting, and turning, gradually progressing to swerving and emergency braking.  We will give you a written and a riding test. Students who successfully complete the BRC course, and pass both tests, will be issued a completion card from MMSP which is a waiver for BOTH the Missouri DMV written and riding tests.  Take the card to your local Missouri license office and they will put a motorcycle endorsement on your drivers license.  You won't need to take any tests at the DMV.

All classes held rain or shine. BRC students must be at least 15½ years old and able to ride a bicycle. Students under 18 years of age must have a release form signed by a legal guardian or parent. Two-wheeled motorcycles only (no trikes or 3-wheelers). We provide the bikes. All students are required to show proof they have completed the required online course before attending class and must bring the required riding gear. You will need a DOT-compliant 3/4 or full face helmet, over the ankle boots, full fingered gloves, long-sleeved jacket or shirt, eye protection and long pants. No refunds will be given for failure to have completed the online training, to attend a class or for cancellations made less than 7 days before the class start date and you will be required to pay to reschedule into another class. At the discretion of the instructors, students who are unable to safely operate the motorcycles will be dismissed from class for their own protection and the safety of the group. No refunds will be given if you are unable to complete the course for any reason.

  • Able to balance and ride a bicycle
  • Possess either a driver's license or State issued ID and complete the required online course within 30 days of your first class date
  • Range exercises include low-speed maneuvers and basic skills such as shifting, accelerating, braking, cornering, U-turn, lane change
  • You'll be with the same group for the duration of your training
  • You'll receive individual RiderCoach feedback while learning to ride
  • Motorcycle is provided
  • Food/beverages for breaks and lunch
  • Your own riding gear (see below)
  • Pen/pencil for classroom sessions and Proof of having completed the required online training class
  • Long-sleeve shirt or jacket
  • Long pants -heavy denim or riding pants recommended. Pants cannot have holes in them
  • Boots that cover the ankle, and provide ankle support, with little to no heel
  • Eye protection or full-face helmet with visor
  • Full-finger gloves
  • Full-face or ¾-face DOT compliant helmet
  • Sunday Classes: classes take place on two full days over consecutive Sundays. Starting times vary.
  • Weeknight Classes: Typically Monday through Wednesday from 5:30 - 10:00 pm each night.
  • Weekday Classes: This class consists of two full days, typically Monday and Tuesday or Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 am - 3:00 each day.

BASIC BIKE BONDING RIDER COURSE (BBBRC) $115

The next step after taking a Basic Rider Course.  Participants must have a motorcycle endorsement or riding permit. 
The BBBRC is a partial day riding course, using motorcycles we supply, designed to provide a low risk, effective, and enjoyable training event for participants just starting their riding endeavors. The BBBRC helps riders develop smooth and precise control as they manipulate primary motorcycle controls and develop their riding procedures and techniques.
Good bike bonding helps a rider automate physical skills so they can devote more attention to road and traffic conditions (searching and evaluating). It helps a rider to be a better decision maker.
The BBBRC consists of 11 riding exercises that start with basic control reinforcement with a progression to advanced manuvering.

BASIC RIDER COURSE 2 - SKILLS PRACTICE (BRC-2) $115

A partial day course for endorsed riders who want to become more comfortable riding their own motorcycles or riding with a passenger (over 18).  The BRC2 class provides an opportunity to improve basic street riding techniques and crash avoidance maneuvers. Perfect for recent BRC graduates, great as a Spring refresher, to sharpen skills or to get more comfortable with that new bike.

3 WHEEL BASIC RIDER COURSE (3WBRC) $199*

DirtBike School is a fun, one-day, hands-on training session available to anyone six years old or above. DBS classes are held at Holzhauer Pro Motorsports in Nashville, IL. You can find more information using this link:  https://midwestdbs.com/.

The school begins with the basics:  sitting on the motorcycle, location and operation of controls and straight-line riding.  As students progress, they learn how to ride in circles, make sharp turns and how to ride on hills.  Besides learning new skills, students also discuss responsible riding practices including risk management and environmental awareness.  At the end of the school, students should have a solid understanding of the techniques an off-highway rider must use to stay safe, act responsibly and, most importantly, have fun.  Regularly scheduled classes are for ages 12 and up.
